We are recruiting reliable and hardworking Kitchen Assistants to support kitchen teams within care home environments. You will work under the direction of the Chef, helping with food preparation while maintaining high standards of food hygiene, cleanliness and safety.

The role includes assisting with basic food preparation, washing up and keeping kitchen areas clean and organised. You will be expected to follow current food hygiene laws and procedures, understand safe food temperatures and support the safe storage and handling of food.

You will be responsible for regularly cleaning and sanitising kitchen surfaces, equipment and preparation areas, following appropriate cleaning procedures to prevent cross-contamination. You will take direction from the Chef and work as part of the kitchen team to ensure food is prepared safely and to a high standard.

Previous kitchen or catering experience and basic food preparation and food hygiene knowledge are desirable.

Responsibilities
  • Assist with stock control, including checking deliveries, stock rotation and storage.
  • Carry out basic food preparation as directed by the Chef.
  • Use basic knife skills safely and correctly.
  • Follow food hygiene regulations and safe food handling procedures.
  • Understand and maintain safe food temperatures.
  • Follow health and safety procedures at all times.
  • Clean and sanitise kitchen surfaces, equipment and preparation areas.
  • Wash dishes, utensils and kitchen equipment to a high standard.
  • Follow COSHH (Control of Substances Hazardous to Health) procedures when using cleaning products and chemicals.
  • Prevent cross-contamination by following appropriate cleaning and food preparation procedures.
  • Keep the kitchen clean, organised and safe throughout the shift.
  • Follow instructions from the Chef and work effectively as part of the kitchen team.
Qualifications
  • Food Hygiene Certificate – desirable.
  • Basic knowledge of food hygiene and safe food handling.
  • Basic food preparation and knife skills.
  • Understanding of health and safety procedures.
  • Knowledge of COSHH and safe use of cleaning chemicals.
  • Previous kitchen, catering or care home experience – desirable.
  • Good attention to detail and ability to maintain high standards of cleanliness.
  • Reliable, organised and able to work well as part of a team.
  • Ability to follow instructions and work under the direction of the Chef.
  • DBS Certificate on the update service or willingness to obtain
  • Allergens certificate - desirable
